They say it takes two to tango. For Pamela and Marat Daukayev, it took a pas de deux. Their story is a dance of the heart where, step by step, they built a life together in Windsor Square, with three now grown children (Marat Jr. and twins Emma and Nicholas), two golden retrievers and three birds. Plus, they founded an acclaimed ballet school along the way.

Ballet dancer Marat Daukayev is back en pointe after a near-fatal heart attack. This week, for the second time since his heart scare, Daukayev and his wife are putting the final touches on a production of “The Nutcracker” that will feature more than 100 of their ballet students. It will be performed this coming weekend.

Daukayev is a beloved ballet teacher and the owner of Los Angeles-based Marat Daukayev School of Ballet with his wife of 28 years, Pamela. Daukayev also is known around the world for his 20-year career as a leading male dancer in numerous international ballet tours.

Unique Nutcracker show at Luckman Theatre at Cal State LA produced by students, families

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — There may not be anything more synonymous with the holiday season then the Nutcracker ballet! We’re taking you backstage for rehearsal of an annual performance at the Luckman Theatre at Cal State Los Angeles, where it’s all hands on deck to be stage ready.

It’s thanks to the artistic direction of Marat and Pamela Daukayev from the Marat Daukayev School of Ballet. But unlike most productions, this one is performed and produced entirely by dance students and their families, some as young as 4 years old up to young adults in college.

At Marat Daukayev School of Ballet, dancers wore pink leotards in October to raise awareness for breast cancer and show heartfelt support for their beloved teacher, Miss Allison.

Each month brings awareness to a cause that impacts lives across the world. October is nationally recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month — a time to show solidarity, educate, and support those affected by breast cancer.

At my local dance studio in Los Angeles, Marat Daukayev School of Ballet, the community came together in a meaningful way to highlight this cause, especially in honor of one of their own.
